to know the shape of you, without having to lose my own…

i'm here wanting to know the shape of you, without having to lose my own

“i’m here… wanting
to know the shape of you,
without having to lose my own.
but just not yet knowing how…

how to take you in, but keep me too.

how to breathe love and
wholeness all at once.”

– butterflies rising

The butterflies rising poem ‘to know the shape of you, without having to lose my own’ is on page 205 of her poetry book ‘wild spirit, soft heart’ in the “relationships” section and was originally published in 2018. In January of 2022, butterflies rising reworked the wording of the poem slightly and republished it in her poetry book ‘she’s flowers and fire’. The poem was written about the way that she has struggled in relationships with being able to hold her own sovereignty and stay connected to her independence because she loves so deeply. But she so fiercely needs her independence, so she wants to learn how she can be in love and breathe it in deeply, yet still stay connected to her wholeness just as passionately.
